Michael F. McGarghan, Jr., FICF is a fourth-degree Brother Knight who serves as Field Agent for over 1000 families in several Councils in East and Central Vermont. Mike graduated Burlington High School in 1985, then returned to school and graduated with his BS degree in 2000, attending St. Michaels and Regents College. He and his wife Kelly have two teenage children, Bradley and Stephanie. Mike & Kelly have been married since 1990. The McGarghan family are parishioners and past school parents of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Church and School. Mike agreed to join the Agency Department in 2005 serving as Field Agent to councils covering Chittenden, Addison and Washington counties. Mike works with the councils, serving the needs of Knight Families. He also is involved with recruiting & retention efforts, fraternal activities and council functions and he shows traits of the type of Agent the Fr. McGivney would be proud of. Mike has also brought many talents and experience into the Agency with just a short mention of the following: member of the VT Air National Guard as a Chaplain Assistant with several deployments including combat theaters in S.W Asia. He was appointed as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist serving the Military Archdiocese. Mike has also served as a correctional officer and electronics technician and is a licensed journeymen electrician. All the while; dealing with helping fix problems, and supporting people in need. Mike serves as a planner, educator, and advisor providing professional advice and planning incorporated with financial products and services for Catholic families and businesses. The Order’s mission today, continuing Fr. McGivney’s vision in 1882, is to provide financial security for all Knights of Columbus members and their families. The products the Knights offer, along with the service provided by agents like Mike, allow us to do this. Business and Fraternal Qualifications: Joined the Knights of Columbus in 2000, and became a 3rd degree member of St. Mark council 12590 and 4th degree member of the DeGoesbriand Assembly 1148. NH & VT Field Agent of the Year, and Agent of the Month multiple times. Holds the prestigious Fraternal Insurance Counselor (FIC) and the Fraternal Insurance Counselor Fellow (FICF) designations. Annually completes extensive continuing education in business planning, estate planning & preservation, ethics, etc. Volunteers for a host of council and local activities and is a Recruitment Chairman. Member of the Order’s VIP (Very Important Proposer’s Club). He has held some council & assembly officer positions since joining the Order in 2000, including DGK and Membership Director with a very successful record of accomplishments. Mike has also served the local community in many volunteer positions which led him to want to serve the Church and the Knights of Columbus has provided a perfect match for him.
